Crypticon Seattle Film Festival emphasizes Horror in Seattle!

Crypticon Seattle Film Festival Director Eric Morgret takes us inside Crypticon just in time for Halloween

What sets your festival apart from other festivals?
Crypticon Seattle is a horror only festival. We show shorts, features, music videos, and documentaries that are horror inspired, from way over-the-top, to incredibly subtle, to dark sci-fi and fantasy, and everything you can imagine. The festival is part of a convention, because of this we can run films from the moment we open the door until pastmidnight.  Not only do we show our festival films,  we also highlight other festivals, showing the best from BoneBat Film Festival, the Tri-Cities Film Festival, and others. Crypticon Seattle is open to all things dark and creepy.

Do you have a favorite film that has showcased at your Festival?
We like the films we show. The festival does have judges awards for features and shorts. To pick one is just tough. I could give you a list and it would change tomorrow.

Is there something in particular that you look for in submissions? Or are there multiple factors?
The key element we look for is story. Does it tell an interesting tale? Is there a character that is worth watching?  If the film is not telling a narrative story, we look for a great moment, a laugh, a scream, the film generates a reaction, that's what we are looking for.

What is your goal for your festival?
To feature movies people want to talk about. They leave and are still thinking about it days later. They tell friends about it. They post it on Twitter and Facebook telling everyone they know to see that film! The movie they see has to be in their permanent collection. Every Halloween that is the film they have to watch. When the creators make a new film, you have to see it! Crypticon Seattle wants you to find your next favorite film at the festival.

How is your festival received locally?
We are in good contact with lots of local press and other local film festivals and have worked with most of them in some way or another. We are avoided by some because of the subject matter we show, but that has not been a huge distraction.

Where do you see or would like to see your Festival in 5 years?
Continuing to show top-notch indie horror that films you might miss.  There are so many horror films released every year,  we want to help fans find the films they will enjoy. We want to become one of the ‘go-to’ festivals for horror.
