Sci-Fi Feature Drama ’96 SOULS’ Premieres Friday at Phoenix Comicon

Film presents what can happen when a lab accident enables a struggling scientist to see people's true intentions, leading him into a life-changing mystery

The sci-fi mystery/drama feature film “96 SOULS,” directed by Stanley Jacobs, will screen at the upcoming Phoenix Comicon 2016 on June 3 in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

The film tells the story of Professor Jack Sutree (Grinnell Morris), a university scientist who finds after a lab accident that he can now “see” people’s true intentions. As he struggles to retain his job and funding, he and his predoctoral candidate Ram (Sid Vedra) set out to find answers about this strange phenomenon. Along the way, they are helped by a homeless musician named Bazemint Tape (Toyin Moses) who asks Jack to help find her presumed-dead mother. At the same time Dr. Redfield (Paul Statman), a university Regent from the pharmaceutical industry, gets wind of Jack’s discovery and has his own chilling plans for it.

 

“96 SOULS” features breakout performances from several newcomers including Grinnell Morris, Toyin Moses and Sid Vedra.  Also playing key roles are such features indie veterans as Kevin Rock, Paul Statman and Rob Locke. Other featured cast members include Michael J. Silver, Shai Fali, Jewel Greenberg and Porter Duong. IndieFEST Film Awards recently honored Statman with the Award of Excellence for supporting actor for his performance in the film as Dr. Clayton Redfield. 

 

The film is written, directed and produced by Stanley Jacobs. Co-producers are Don Hale and Greg Rose; music by Noah Lifschey; film editing by Tim Farrey and Mike Kradas; production design by Craig E. Nelson and art direction by Stacy Nelson.

 

Director Stanley Jacobs attended the University of Southern California School of Cinema. Post college, he wrote and directed marketing films and produced advertising including the documentary “Pitch People,” a salute to the stars of infomercial television.

The film will screen Friday, June 3 at 3:30 PM at the Phoenix Convention Center, West Building, Room 102-B, 100 N. Third Street in Phoenix as part of the Festival line-up. Only registered convention attendees can attend screenings.
